Water rates have a direct impact on your pocketbook. Three of the district wholesale agencies have lower rates. They purchase the water from SJWD and operate in less costly and more efficient maner. Everything does not need to increase in price, holding the line on costs and using my experience managing water agencies, we can drive for effiencies and abandon wasteful practices.
Our community has used water for over 100 years. The district holds our water rights which are intended for the beneficial use of the customers. We must be active and engaged in protecting our water rights and the water quality. We need experienced representaion and creditable participation in the decisions from the crest of the Sierras to our tap. Water exports to S. California or Bay Area as well as sales to other agencies need to be a lower priority than our needs. Clean water is our inheritance and should be our legacy.
This election is about the future. Failing to plan is planning to fail. Water systems require significant investments made i timely manner. SJWD fell behind on planning and paying for replacements. Catching up is expensive. The district was lucky on low interest rates to fund the replacement of the reservoir. Luck is not a good strategy. I bring over 30 years experience, public & private, leading utilities with sound planning and financial management policies.
SJWD has two types of customers. wholesale and retail. Wholesale customers are served San Juan Water via another agency. These agencies lead in their customer relationships. San Juan also has its own retail customers and must divide the eforts between these two roles. Both areas need attention to improve the transparency and responsiveness of the district to our interests and needs.
Volunteers are needed for campaign signs and to help inform our neighbors of the issues. Please contact me for a yard sign or campaign fliers. We are planning a sign waving day at a couple local intersections election weekend, please let me know if you would be willing to participate.
